Mediawan strengthens in cinema with Chi-Fou-Mi

The Mediawan group has acquired a majority stake in Chi-Fou-Mi Productions, cinema film production company, strengthening itself in this sector.

Created in 2012 by Hugo Sélignac, Chi-Fou-Mi is notably behind the films North ferry by Cedric Jimenez (the picture above), premiered at this Cannes Film Festival and purchased by Netflix for international release, et mandibles by Quentin Dupieux, who opened Venice last year, or box office success The Big Bath by Gilles Lellouche, co-produced with Les Productions du Trésor and Alain Attal, where, and with who, Hugo Sélignac worked before setting up his own company.

This association will allow him to develop more ambitious projects for the cinema and to embark on the series which he has always dreamed of doing., commented Hugo Sélignac to Variety, adding that directors Gilles Lelouche and Cédric Jimenez are already developing, both, series projects at Chi-Fou-Mi.

This acquisition bears witness to the less and less watertight borders between cinema and television and allows the Mediawan group, of which some of the companies were already producing cinema films, particularly animated ones, to position itself more as a player in the sector, covering all genres. Mediawan is particularly powerful in the production of fiction, especially since the purchase of Lagardère Studio, who also reinforced him in the flow shows, and the group owns a few leading companies in documentaries and is very active in animation through On Kids & Family. Mediawan is also pursuing European development through its Franco-German joint venture Mediawan Leonine, which has just, a few days ago, to take a majority stake in the English company Drama Republic.
