Skip to content Netflix has a new mega-hit with its serial killer series 80 having committed particularly horrific crimes, Jeffrey Dahmer, which has been leading audiences for English-language series on the platform for three weeks now.
From his first weekend, the series of 10 episodes, co-created by Ryan Murphy (Nip/tuck, Glee, American Horror Story, Ratched) almost reached the 200 million cumulative hours viewed, to progress to nearly 300 million in its first full week and still be over 200M last week. It is thus already ranked second in the general ranking of the best audiences for English-language series on the platform since always with a total of 701 million hours, behind the season 4 of Stranger Things, but before the second of Bridgerton. In less than three weeks she is already 4th overall in all programs.
The cannibal of Milwaukee, as he is nicknamed, was also the subject of a three-part documentary that has just been uploaded on the platform and has positioned itself directly second to the top 10 English language series last week, with 31 million hours for its first weekend.
If Jeffrey Dahmer makes Netflix happy, on the other hand, this is far from being the case for the families of the victims, many of whom have expressed their horror at this new over-mediatization, reproaching the platform for its complacency.
Each month its series
Since Stranger Things 4 in June, Netflix had had an English-language series each month that stood out but without being so successful. In August, it was the fantasy series The Sandman which started at 69 million hours, then rose to 127M before dropping to 77M then 54M. Early September, it was the season 5 of Cobra Kai who was embarking on 107 million hours, already settled a little to 96M in the first week, then at 38M the next one.

On the side of non-English language series, the biggest success of the last few months was that of Extraordinary Attorney Woo, which is spread over the length. The 16 episodes of this korean series, centered on the adventures of an autistic lawyer, were in fact put online gradually from the end of June until 18 august, the series is also produced and therefore broadcast on a Korean channel (This one). Extraordinary Attorney Woo remained at the top of the top non-English language series on Netflix for ten weeks in a row with a weekly accumulation of hours ranging from 30 close to 80 million hours. In September, another korean series themed this time about drug lords Narco-Saints distinguished itself at its launch with 65 million hours in the first week, but it was quickly dethroned by the German series The Empress (The Empress), a Sissi re-visited, which launched a fortnight ago at the top of the audience for non-English language series with 47 million then 59 million hours, in the top of 88 pays, and looks promising, according to Netflix statements. Update 26/10/22. Dahmer was finally dethroned the week of 10 October by another series created by the same Ryan Murphy from a true story, The Watcher, which starts strong at 125 million hours and confirms the week of 17 october, at 148M. Dahmer still accumulates 123M then 69M during these two weeks. His final score for his 28 first days is 856 million hours, ranking second English-language series since the debut of Netflix tops, and third largest audience, everything confused. 02/11/22 : The Watcher however, does not remain in the lead the following week, down to second place with less powerful scores even if still good, but another serial killer appeared the last week of October in the first position of the top this time of films, The Good Nurse, with, in his early days, the very good performance for a feature film by 68 million hours.
Regarding non-English language series, The Empress is still in the top without developing its success enormously, its performance being reduced to 15 then 10 million hours, Editorial lines High Water Black you top 10 in the fourth week.

French series stand out in the top France
26/10/22 In the top France, note for the week of 17 october the french series, Netflix original creation, Our Lady, part of the fire which starts with a bang, in 3rd position behind The Watcher et Dahmer, Editorial lines The Black Butterflies, again a story of serial killers released on Netflix after the broadcast on Arte.tv and Arte, progress from 10th to 5th position. 2/11/22 Next week, Our Lady, part of the fire remains in the top France in seventh position, while at the sixth appears The Fighters, this time a production for TF1 of which Netflix was a partner, and which was successfully broadcast at the start of the school year. What did not prevent him from distinguishing himself, as The Black Butterflies, on the platform a few weeks later, Netflix therefore seems to bring a complementary audience profile.
Update 8/11/22 : Monster : the Jeffrey Dahmer Story et The Watcher have both been renewed by Netflix as a’anthology series (or collections). The first one, Monsters will focus on other murderers who have hit the headlines, for the second it was not specified. Netflix also announced a season 2 from the German series The Empress. Netflix releases on Dahmer et The Watcher, and on The Empress.
